Statement from Roundtable

The Canadian Travel & Tourism Roundtable notes with interest the government’s decision to begin engaging with Canada’s airlines regarding financial assistance and support for the broader aviation sector.

Canada’s airlines, airports, hotels, travel agencies, large events and attractions, boards of trade and chambers of commerce have joined together for the past six months to encourage government support of our sector as a whole, and to be a resource to the public around the safety of end-to-end travel.

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted travel and tourism across our country. Canada’s travel industry cannot survive without a sustainable aviation sector. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been calling for urgent, meaningful dialogue between industry and government, and we are glad to see that discussion has commenced.

In addition to financial support, the sector needs a science-based approach to quarantine, widespread, readily available rapid testing, and real dialogue around the future reopening of our sector. We look forward to commencing those discussions sooner than later.
